Chiropractic

Chiropractic is one of the largest professions in Canada providing primary health care.  Close to five million Canadians each year receive chiropractic care. Chiropractors in our office believe that health care is continually evolving and advancing and as such the chiropractor must evolve too.

Chiropractic care focuses on identifying disorders associated with the spine, pelvis, extremity joints, and their effect on the nervous system. The objective of the chiropractic adjustment is to treat decreased movement in the joints, thereby increasing joint function of the joint, reducing inflammation and pain and improving overall health.

From daily activity, sleeping habits, poor sitting posture etc. we have joints that become fixated and within one week of this fixation the disc begins to erode and break down.

Here’s an important fact about your anatomy that you should take home.  All tissues of the body have a blood supply that brings white blood cells, chemical mediators and nutrition to repair daily damage and keep the cells healthy.  Your joints and vertebral discs (the pads between the discs that absorb physical stress) do not have a blood supply.  They require full, normal range of motion which causes a pumping of fluid through the cells, bringing the nutrition in.  From daily activity, sleeping habits, poor sitting posture etc. we have joints that become fixated (don’t move well) and within one week of this fixation the disc begins to erode and break down.  Through time the joint begins to inflame and pain is felt.  Scar tissue also begins to form which binds the joint further.  At this point it is difficult to fix itself and the swelling creates more pain and may affect nerves, either causing numbness, sharp pain, or affecting organ function.

This is why chiropractic is so important to your health and why the chiropractic adjustment should be a part of your health regime like a visit to your dentist.

Chiropractic adjustment refers to a chiropractor applying a low force to the joints that have dysfunctional movement patterns. This adjustment comes in many forms and we believe that not all techniques work for every patient. This is why we are trained in several techniques, from very low force chiropractic adjustments using our hands or aids (such as the activator or drop table) to more physical manual adjustments.  We also believe strongly in the soft tissue-joint connection and often incorporate muscle work in our treatments.
